Last week NASA launched the Kepler Mission mean’t to search for Earth like planets in the Universe over a period of three years. When any such planets are found, there would be a possibility that life exists on these planets or it existed at one time.
I personally believe life exists in other parts of the universe. It’s very unlikely that we are the only living beings that exist.
Life started from a primeval soup of organic molecules that contained the essential elements of life like Carbon, Oxygen, Nitrogen and Hydrogen. When the right conditions were provided like the Sufficient Energy, Temperature and Pressure, these reacted to form the building blocks of Life (Amino Acids) and other molecules like Nucleotides, Water, Sugars and many others. These reacted to form more complex molecules like Proteins, DNA, Carbohydrates which later reacted to form the Prokaryotic Cell (like Bacteria). Read More About The origin of Life
Through Evolution, the Prokaryotic Cell has evolved into more complex and diverse organisms that we see today.
Now let me ask you something!! What are the chances that that reaction only took place here (on earth) and not any other place in the Universe?? May be One in a Million!!
The Universe is very huge that we don’t even know it’s real size. And according to current theories, its suggested that the Universe is still expanding. So the chances that the same reaction or a similar one took place in other parts of the Universe is very high. So Kepler’s mission according to me is very crucial in proving that Life started from a Primeval Soup of Organic Molecules.
If it doesn’t find anything, it doesn’t mean the theory is incorrect. May be there are some factors we haven’t considered yet, but if it finds something, this will pave the way for more studies or missions to study the existence of life on these planets
I would like to clear up something; Kepler is not looking for Life specifically. It’s just looking for Earth like Planets which means they would have the right conditions for life to exist on them. So if Kepler finds any such planets, this will help us narrow down as to what planets we should concentrate on in the search for life.
And may be one time, Current theories will be proved right and we will finally have a clue as to how we came into existence.
